Peggy Asian Pear

A unique find! Discovered as a limb sport of Arirang Asian pear tree, Doug Keithly found a real winner. The fruit was noticeably different in that it ripened four weeks earlier and had a distinct shape and attractive russet color. He named the variety after the most precious thing he could think of – his wife Peggy.

The tree grows upright with a slight spreading nature. Its fruit is crisp and juicy with a green to golden yellow russeted skin. The fruit’s flesh is white with slight cream-yellow tint. Its taste is sweet and refreshing with a pleasant aroma. Fruit shape is more conical than most Asian pears. Fruit keeps well in proper storage — approximately 8 months. Discovered in 2003 in Yakima, Washington. Cold-hardy. Ripens in late August. Pollinator required: choose another pear variety like New Century, Hosui, or Bartlett.
